Owning my data · outline
-
if I can't move it, inspect it, or delete it, I don't own it
- I'm trying to keep ownership of the data of my life
two separate choices
- what gets recorded: how much, in what detail, and when
- what gets shown: to whom, and in how much detail
- they are independent: record everything, show nothing
I'm trying this out in Tukur
- sharing my location is one choice; what people see is another
third parties seem fine when I can leave
- Supabase: I can take my Postgres dump and go
the oldest version: a folder of plain text notes
- tools come and go, and the files stay
- before building something new, I ask whether I end up owning more of my data or less
